AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING GRANTS TO BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2000.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Department of Public Safety for the purpose of providing grants to Boys and Girls Clubs in the state, in accordance with Section 2 of this act, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, and ending June 30,

2000 $6,125,000.00.

SECTION 2. The money appropriated by Section 1 of this act shall be distributed to Boys and Girls Clubs by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with the following criteria:

(a) The club seeking a grant must apply to the department and provide a detailed plan for the use of the grant.

(b) The department will evaluate the application and plan to determine if the grant will be used by the club for purposes specified by rule or regulation of the department.

(c) The amount of a grant will not exceed One Hundred Seventy-five Dollars ($175.00) for each child served by the club.

(d) The club must provide matching funds for the amount of a grant on a fifty-fifty basis.

SECTION 3. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
